Hello My Loves!!
Me again. Happy Friday! It’s super warm here in London, and I’m getting myself in order! All of a sudden, my wardrobe needs a refresh. I’m waxing everything, buying flip-flops, eating salad, and my skin has to be out. Which brings us to today. The key to Glowing skin this summer is an even base. Self Tanning. Today I will be sharing why you should consider adding tanning to your maintenance routine and also giving you my favourite tanning tips & brands that I trust!
…An Even Base
Self Tanning is a common ritual for Caucasian women but for black women, we neglect tanning as we believe the only intention behind tanning is to become darker. As someone who is in the gym most days, working, and also very clumsy, it shows on my body. A series of marks, scars and hyperpigmentation. That is why I tan. Tanning evens out your skin tone and is the perfect pregame for your shower routine, body oil and cream lineup!
Also, the pigment in the tan will automatically make you glow!
If that hasn’t already sold you, one of my other favourite benefits is it’s a safer alternative to sun exposure. I don’t know if I need to say this but just in case, a self-tan doesn’t protect you from the sun, you still need SPF. Melanin offers some natural sun protection, but it’s still possible to get sunburned or develop sun-related skin issues. Self-tanning avoids UV damage while giving that post-vacation glow without the risk.
These days, they do facial self-tanning drops, In certain lighting or with flash photography, self-tanning can reduce ashy or dull-looking patches. It helps makeup sit better on the skin and complements your outfits by giving a more cohesive, smooth skin finish.
My tips!
- Opt for a Gradual Tanner - my favourite is a gradual wash-off tan! (I’ll share it below)
- Patch Test! You never know how your skin will react to it. It shouldn’t dry out your skin, or cause itchiness or irritation.
- Scrub Well & Shave Pre-Tan for the most even finish! Remove all the dirt and build up from hair and oil (essentially, have an everything shower)
Steps to Success:
My Everything Shower Routine
- Wash
- Shave
- Scrub
- Tan (Free from Creams & Oils)
- Let it Develop (Follow Instructions)
- Wash off Tan
- Oil / Cream / Hydrate
As promised, my tan's of choice (with links):
Bondi Sands - Ultra Dark Self-Tanning Foam
This is my staple, every 2-3 weeks
I have also tried...
Garnier Spray On Ambre Solaire Bronzing Mist
I love this! I would sleep in it, then wash it off in the morning. It’s easy to use but the fan doesn’t last long as it’s a mist! However, a great starting point!
My last one is a brand I fell in love with following their journey! They make sunscreen specifically for black skin! Amazing founders, amazing product!
Caribe Tanning Mousse
